COUNTY INTO FINALS

nlogo.jpgCounty Londonderry teams will contest finals in this years Milk Cup. Both teams won their semi-final games today Thursday.

 The Juniors were first to reach a final winning 1 nil at Parker Avenue, Portrush against County Antrim. Adam McKeever netted the winner to send County to the Slemish Trophy final for the second year in a row.

 The Premier boys overcame County Armagh at Castlerock to reach the final of the Dunluce Trophy.

The Dunluce semi at Castlerock was a very exciting affair and Quinn came close with a header in the opening minutes. Armagh had a good period in the first 10 minutes winning numerous corners but not converting. Ciaran Villa and Aaron McGregor then got control of the game and these 2 combined well before Villa through ball sent the lively Sam Boylan through the middle but he narrowly missed. Derry did take the lead when their inspirational skipper Caoimhin Bonner made a great block to start a  good move. Aaron Harkin collected and found Aaron McGregor in the box and he was fouled. Boylan stepped up and for the second day running converting the spot kick. McGregor came close and after a great kickout from Mark Hasson, Boylan almost increased the lead.
Niall Grace came of the bench and immediately send Boylan through and he played a short ball in the channel where Cathair Friel poked it into the bottom corner to make it 2-0.
Hassan made a great save 15 minutes into the second half after Ruairi Quinn was caught out and he again did well saving a good header from a Fermanagh corner. With 15 minutes left Armagh got a penalty when Bonner upended the striker. Armagh had 2 good chances to level and when the ball was played across the goaline and the Armagh forward slid in everyone held their breath but he failed to connect and the Derry boys celebrated reaching the Dunluce final where the meet Cherry Orchard.
